Meet the Youth Director

Wayne Potter, Director

Hello, my name is Wayne Potter, and I am extremely excited to be the Director of Youth and Family Ministries here at the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids. I grew up right here in Antrim County and graduated from Bellaire High School, so I have an understanding and a love for all that Northern Michigan has to offer. Yes, that includes the winters… ice fishing anyone? I started attending youth group while I was in high school and surrendered my life to Jesus while attending a youth camp just north of Cadillac before the start of my senior year of high school. I have had the opportunity to attend two different schools with Youth With A Mission; a Discipleship Training School in Texas and a Leadership Training School in Colorado. I also graduated from Pinecrest Bible Training Center, located in upstate New York, with a degree in Biblical Studies. I have had the privilege of doing mission work in Mexico, Jamaica, Bolivia, and across the United States. I have also been blessed to serve churches in Surry Virginia, Fort Collins New York, Richland Center Wisconsin, and most recently St. Charles Illinois. My passion is helping students become devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

In 1999 I was married to Marcy Potter whom I met while attending Pinecrest Bible Training Center. Marcy is originally from the St. Johns, Michigan area. She is passionate about student ministry as well and has worked diligently with the youth in every church we have served in.

As a youth worker I believe it is my number one job to support parents as they shape the spiritual lives of their children. Raising spiritually mature and committed teenagers is a huge job that requires the support of the entire church community. I am excited by the commitment to family that is so evident here. So far, my observations have confirmed my hope that the First Presbyterian Church views the youth of the church as a priority and something worth investing in. Your programing is intentionally designed to maximize the impact on a student’s spiritual life while minimizing the demands on the family. I look forward to serving you and your family as we grow together in our love and devotion to Jesus Christ.
